The Society supports projects which are in keeping with its Mission Statement.  These projects must be connected to a Presbyterian Congregation and must also benefit children and families.  Projects report to the Society regularly and are monitored to ensure funds are used appropriately.  The Society is currently involved in the following projects:

A contact centre provides a neutral venue where children of separated families can enjoy contact with one or both parents and sometimes other family members in a comfortable and safe environment where there is no viable alternative.  At present the Society is part funding one centre connected with Presbyterian Churches – Knock Contact Centre.  It is also in discussion with a congregation in the South, regarding the setting up of a contact centre in this area. To find out more about contact centres, contact the Secretary [Tel: 028 90323737 / Fax: 028 90434352 / Email: paul-grey@btconnect.com]

The Money Advice project was set up to provide advice for families on money management, budgeting and dealing with debt. From the service started in May 2005, there have been almost 60 contacts with debts of almost £800,000 dealt with.  This is a free and confidential service and the Society can take referrals from ministers on behalf of a family or a family can self-refer at any time. A small number of bursaries are available to parent and toddler groups, crèches, lone parent support groups, holiday schemes, or groups wishing to initiate parenting courses or similar projects.  The aim of this Scheme is to enhance and improve childcare facilities within Presbyterian congregations and to highlight the need for adequate and appropriate facilities for children and lone parents.  To find out more contact the Secretary [Tel: 028 90323737 / Fax: 028 90434352 / Email: paul-gray@presbyterianorphanandchildrenssociety.org]

Taking Care

The Society has been involved in producing a card for every family in the Presbyterian Church as part of “Taking Care”.
